Individual Therapy
What type of counseling will I receive?
I've been working in the helping profession since 2005 and pride myself on making people feel comfortable, safe, and allowing them to not feel judged.
Whether you have felt shame, embarrassment or misunderstood, I am here to be open-minded and affirming of whatever your background and experiences have been. I provide psycho-therapy via talk therapy, individualized advocacy, and bring a wealth of personal experience as well as academic expertise to ensure you are receiving the best care possible.
Do you offer alternatives to in-person counseling?
Yes, Kismet Counseling offers video/tele-health counseling services via HIPAA compliant virtual portal.
Clients wishing to participate in video-counseling exclusively need to discuss that option with me to determine if this alternative form of counseling is a good fit.
What is EMDR therapy and will it help me?
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based tool to help persons heal from past trauma or distressing events experienced in their life.
According to the EMDR Institute, numerous studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.
There has been so much research on EMDR therapy that it is now recognized as an effective form of treatment for trauma and other disturbing experiences by organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, the World Health Organization and the Department of Defense.
Given the worldwide recognition as an effective treatment of trauma, you can easily see how EMDR therapy may be effective in treating the "everyday" memories that are the reason people have low self-esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and all the myriad problems that bring them in for therapy.
Over 100,000 clinicians throughout the world use the therapy. Millions of people have been treated successfully over the past 25 years (EMDR Institute, 2019).
EMDR is just one of many tools that Kismet Counseling uses to help clients. EMDR is a gradual process that the provider and client will discuss prior to consideration of this technique. To read more about EMDR and find more information please visit the Resources link.
